Me and my Nutritional Immunology Journey

My university classmate first introduced me to the concept of Nutritional Immunology in year 2007. I did not really understand what it is and do not see the importance of daily food nutrition because I thought I was still young and have good health. So I brushed her off.

But in actual fact, I had numerous small health problems. Such as eczema, low blood count, often feeling cold, gastric, often getting flu and so on so on.....

Year 2012

Fortunately for me, she was persistent to help me to see the benefits of Nutritional Immunology. So in year 2012, I tried Oxyginberry Beverage for 6 months under her recommendation. To be honest, I know nuts what I am taking. All I know is that she will not harm me.

This started my daily consumption of Oxyginberry, a beverage that is high anti-oxidant and phytochemicals.

Three months after taking Oxyginberry, I noticed that my skin got significantly smoother. I was very surprised, so I contacted her to understand more about this product. I realised that this is a preservative-free, organic food nutrition!

So with my skin getting smoother, my confidence in the products improved. I looked through the product catalogue and found Vegaplex, a product supposed to improve blood iron levels and blood count. Without much delay, I bought Vegaplex and consumed it with Oxyginberry

In 2 weeks, I find that I do not feel so cold anymore. My lips look less pale now. I was so happy, but I wanted data to prove the efficacy of Vegaplex on my blood. Between 2011 and 2013, my health report clearly showed that I am have no more low blood haemoglobin count! I'll probably write more about this in the next post.

Soon, I also realised that I do not have eczema anymore. This is because I used to have dry itchy skin when I go to USA for work and the weather is dry and cold. But during one of the business trip, I realised that my skin did not give me problems anymore.

First time in my life it showed up so clearly to me that having good health and strong immune system is so important. The intangible benefits of not having to scratch, feel irritated, feel unnecessarily cold all the time is really precious.

No way am I going to give up my pursuit for fuss-free maintenance of good health via convenient and nutritious food products.

Year 2014 / 2015

One month after my ROM, I realised I was pregnant! Really one hit wonder! I am already in my mid 30s and I hit the jackpot with one try. Hahaha.

Once I knew I was pregnant, I quickly purchased all the food nutrition and consumed them religiously everyday. My growing baby will be consuming all the nutrients from me. So I had to make sure I had sufficient by myself and her. I supplemented on plant proteins, folates, iron, antioxidants, omega-3, AA (the precursor of DHA required for brain development) and many other nutrients. Polysaccharides are also a must to build up and strength the immunity for my baby.

What better and easier way to nourish my baby, than consuming the foods myself and passing them to her?

Today after giving birth to my darling girl, I still continue to make sure I give my girl sufficient nutrients and immunity via my choice of diet and feeding her breast milk.

Looking at her grow everyday, makes all the money I spent and all the pain and inconvenience I went through during the pregnancy and delivery worth it! :-)

I just look into her eyes and always tell her... Mummy loves you <3

If you are keen to find out more about preservative-free, organic nutrition for pregnant ladies / lactating ladies, feel free to contact me for a COMPLIMENTARY consultation.

3 major nutrients required for a healthy immune system

What is proper nutrition?

Research has long shown that a diet rich in large variety of plant foods can enhance health without any harmful side effects. This is because plant foods contain an abundance of antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides-nutrients bestowed by Nature to help us prevent diseases.

Phytochemicals, antioxidants and polysaccharides are not specific components but generic terms. Each type of phytochemical, antioxidant and polysaccharide has its own unique health benefit to our body. Plant foods are rich in phytochemicals, antioxidant and polysaccharides which can enhance the human body’s immune system.

Phytochemicals

Phytochemicals, or plant chemicals, are compounds unique to each fruit, vegetable and herb. Phytochemicals give fruits and vegetables their color, flavor and aroma. Phytochemicals protect these plants from sunlight and also ensure their survival.

Research has shown phytochemicals to possess enormous healing and disease-preventing properties such as preventing infection, reduction the probability of coronary heart disease, inhibiting and eliminating carcinogens in cells and cancer cell metabolism, as well as accelerating the wound healing process.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are compounds that prevent cell damage through oxidation. These compounds neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are high reactive and unstable molecules produced by cigarette smoke, toxic chemicals, excess sunlight and even our body’s own metabolic processes. These molecules can cuase the mutation of proteins, membranes and even our own DNA, leading to cancer and other degenerative diseases like cataracts and heart disease.

The effect of antioxidants has been likened to that of a vacuum cleaner. By neutralizing cell-mutation free radicals, antioxidants offer hope in the prevention of cancer.

A diet rich in antioxidants is also said to delay aging. Antioxidants have even been used as anti-inflammatory agents to reduce the severity of arthritis and bronchitis.

Polysaccharides

Polysaccharides are long chains of sugars commonly found in some mushrooms. Research has shown that mushroom polysaccharides can inhibit tumor growth by activating immune cells.

Polysaccharides help to balance the immune system and enable it to destroy existing cancer cells and viruses. Polysaccharide-rich mushroom extracts are also used in anti-viral medication.

Nutritional Immunology

Today I'd like to share about my believe and passion - Nutritional Immunology.

What is Nutritional Immunology?

Nutritional immunology studies the link between nutrition and the immune system.

It advocates prevention over cure. Our body's immune system is the best doctor.

It is a highly relevant science that revolves around the fundamental desire of human beings to fight diseases and live longer.

With proper nourishment, our immune system is able to build up strong defense against diseases like cancer, diabetes and influenza.
Through the production of 'immune soldiers', such as macrophages, B and T white blood cells, our immune system is well-maintained. The only indication of our immune system being compromised is when we fall sick.

Like the engine of a car, our immune system requires sufficient fuel for it to always be in peak performance.
An appropriate and adequate supply of disease-preventing nutrients like antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides gives us the nourishment needed to protect our body from daily viral bacterial and other dangerous threats.

Who is the best doctor in the world?

The body is its best doctor. A healthy immune system defends, cleanses and repairs.

If we protect and strengthen the immune system through proper nourishment, it will enable cells to be repaired and revitalised. Only then will the functions of the body's organs be optimally restored and this ensures overall good health.

According to research, besides basic nutrition, there are three other types of nutrients that the immune system needs for improving its capabilities.
- Phytochemicals
- Antioxidants
- Polysaccharides

With accurate Nutritional Immunology knowledge, balanced and pure nutrition intake, good emotional health and adequate rest, we can prevent and greatly reduce the occurrence of illnesses.

The quality of our health is the result of what we eat!

My First Post

Hi!!!

I have always wanted to write a blog to share nutritional information because I believe that we are what we eat. So here I am! :)

Our health tomorrow depends on how we take care of ourselves today. This youtube sums up all I want to say.
