1 year old Baby recover from Fever and Flu in 1 day

I am a strong advocate for Nutritional Immunology. I believe that good health can be obtained if we have the correct knowledge and understand how food nutrition is closely linked to the effectiveness of our immune system.

You might have read about the stringent nutrition that I follow during my pregnancy.

After giving birth, I breastfeed my kid. I wrote about the nutrition of a breastfeeding mum as well. Till today, I am still breastfeeding my kid. I believe in nourishing myself well, in order to be at optimum health, in order to give my kid the best nutrients that she will need to grow up.

Falling Sick

Falling sick is part and parcel of growing up. This is the way Nature builds up our immunity, our body's internal troop of soldiers. It is through the presence of enemies, that our internal army is able to practise fighting, thereby getting better at defense, combat, followed by repair.

Till date at 1 years old, my kid fell sick 3 times.

First time was due to vaccination. She had fever, and recovered in 1 day.

Second time she caught the Roseola virus. Highest temperature reached 39.4C. Her fever subsided in 3 days, and rashes went away within the next 2 days.

Last Thursday (7 July 2016), she had a sudden fever and flu. Highest temperature at 40C.  The mucus was dripping constantly.

For these episodes, I focused on nourishing her immune system to help her to regain her health.

The Fever

My helper fell sick with fever, flu and sore throat 2 Saturdays ago (1 July 2016). She got better on Monday.

She is the primary caregiver for my baby, so I monitored my baby to see if there were any fever / flu symptoms.

No symptoms at all for 6 days!

At dawn of 7 July 2016, baby couldn't sleep well and kept crying. I fed her breast milk - she rejected it.

Fed her water - she drank and drank.

At 7 am, I finally found the thermometer - 40C!!
Mucus kept dripping like some waterfall as well.
She was crying hysterically too. πŸ’”

For mummies of infants, how do you feel at this point?

For me, this is what I did.

1) Quickly text my boss to take urgent leave.

2) Fed her 1ml of paracetamol, to help her feel a little better so she can sleep. (This is the only time she took medicine.)

3) Took a packet of Oxyginberry beverage. Mixed it and spoon-fed my baby.

Fortunately, this is her standard morning drink, so she quietly drank and drank.

The wholesome plant foods, antioxidants and phytochemicals present in this beverage, way exceeds the benefits that plain water can provide.

My little girl fell asleep in my arms.

By 9am, temperature was 39.4C.
Mucus still like a leaking tap.

3) My helper prepared cereals for my girl using I-shape lite

Fortunately too, I-shape lite is not new to my girl. She had been eating a variety of foods since she started on solids.

Although my little girl had very poor appetite, she was able to take 1/4 cup of I-shape lite

This small amount was easy to prepare (within 1 min), and the ginseng present in I-shape lite gives the immune cells a boost, helping her little body defend against germs.

-----------

By 12 noon, temperature dropped to 39.0C.
Mucus still like leaking tap.

My helper and I used different NI foods through the day.

To replenish fluids, we used
- Oxyginberry
- Breast milk
- Millennium liquid - has strong anti inflammatory ability
- Home-brewed Chinese barley drink

For solids, we used
- I-shape lite
- Noco powder - has Lingzhi, nourishes the respiratory system.
- Fruits such as kiwi, strawberry, blueberries.

By 4pm, temperature was 38.5C.
Not so much mucus now.

By 7pm, temperature was 38.0C and she was giggling and playing with her toys again.
Sometimes the mucus annoyed her and she cried a bit.

Before going to bed, temperature was 37.7C.
Mucus starting to dry up.

8 July 7am - 37.0C πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
And I went to work without much worries. I know my helper will be able to manage and take good care of my darling girl. πŸ’—πŸ’—

What did I learn from this episode?

1) Safeguarding my kid's health is NUMBER 1 priority.

When she is sick, do you think I can concentrate at work?

No health, what is career, what is wealth?

2) There is no miracle drug. Constant nourishing to build up immune system, is the best prevention to an extended illness / recovery.

The Chinese have a saying
养兡千ζ—₯ η”¨εœ¨δΈ€ζ—Ά

Our immune army works the same way. They need time to be nourished and train up. When it's time to fight, they will be very competent.

3) Prevention is Better than Cure.

I say --

Prevention is Cheaper than Cure.

Why?
Because the cost of NI food for nourishment, is still cheaper than the cost of seeing a PD, the dollar loss if need to take unpaid leave, the medication for baby or even care giver.....

------

I am very thankful that I have learnt the Science of Nutritional Immunology to safeguard my family's health.

I am thankful for NI foods, because it gives me the convenience, and confidence to safeguard my family's health.

As a busy working mummy, convenience, effectiveness and wholesome nutritious food, will definitely be my choice moving forward.

Breastfeeding and Mummy's Nutrition

It is common knowledge that breast feeding helps to improve the immunity of your kid. Kellymom has a really detailed and good write up about this.

But I would like to share some other thoughts related to breastfeeding.

1) Direct latch

A breastfeeding mummy can choose to direct latch her baby, or exclusive pump. However I read that direct latch has a slight advantage over purely pumping. It appears that the baby's saliva acts as a feedback system to the mummy's breast in order to get suitable antibodies needed to fight a disease.

Link

Breast-feeding is especially good for babies when they become ill. It is high in antibodies. When a baby is sick, the baby's saliva stimulates the breast to make antibodies specific to the illness.

2) Mummy's nutrition

Do you commonly hear of mummies who fall sick after their little ones get well from being sick?

When a baby is sick, a breastfeeding mum will try her best to keep nursing her kid. This is because breast milk is known to supply the baby with antibodies to fight the germs.

In so doing, her immunity level will be lowered slightly.

If the breastfeeding mum is also the primary caregiver of the baby, more often than not, she will lose a lot of sleep. This is because the sick baby will require a lot of constant comforting, hugging, feeding...

When she lacks sleep, immunity is further lowered.

With these 2 factors, it's no wonder we hear of mummies falling sick with their baby.

As such it is important for the mummy to take nutritious food during this period of time. This will allow her to give antibodies to her child via breast milk, and also maintain her own immunity.

Food Nutrition

From my previous post, I took Millennium and Nutriact.

Millennium contains cactus as the main ingredient. The amount of antioxidants and phytochemicals are very high, hence it helps strengthen the immune system.
Millennium Gold has cordyceps added to Millennium. On top of antioxidants and phytochemicals, there are also polysaccharides.

Nutriact contains 4 different types of mushrooms and hence an array of different polysaccharides that strengthens our immune cells.

With proper food nutrition, and the convenience from Millennium and Nutriact, both mummies and baby can enjoy good health.

Infant recovered from fever in one day

I have heard stories from many mummies that their kid fall sick after vaccination jabs.

Example

From their accounts, typically their kids take a few days to get well. In the process, sometimes the mummies themselves fall sick too.

This made me worried because my daughter was due for her 3 months old vaccination on 06 Oct 2015, which includes 2 jabs.

1) 5-in-1 : Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Poliovirus, Haemophilus influenza type B.
2) Pneumococcal

In preparation for the vaccination on 06 Oct, I started to up my own immunity via taking Nutriact and Millennium daily from 04 Oct. The antibodies will be passed from me to my baby via breast milk.

The following is the chronological description of events.

06 Oct morning
As usual, my girl is very chatty and happy. She likes to move her arms and kick her legs.
She poops regularly as well.

06 Oct 11am
Took 2 vaccination jabs.
She started to become very quiet and slept on the way home from the clinic.

06 Oct 12 noon
Reached home. She drank some breast milk (bm) then fell asleep.
Temperature 36.8C.

06 Oct 4pm
She woke up. Fed her bm. Usually she will fidget and try to talk when feeding.
But this time she was quiet. Her arms and legs felt limp. I think she felt very tired and weak.
No poop.
She went back to sleep.

06 Oct 6pm
She woke up. Fed her bm. Her body felt warmer than normal.
She was still quiet and weak. Went back to sleep.
No poop.

06 Oct 9pm
She woke up. Direct latch her so that she gets the freshest bm. At the same time, my body can react by giving her the most appropriate antibodies.
No poop for 9 hours by now!!
Temperature 37.9C!!

07 Oct 2am
Woke her up because she slept for very long.
Mixed Millenium in the breast milk and bottle fed her. Millenium contains fiber from cactus plant. Millennium strengthens the immunity as well.
She went back to sleep.
No poop.

07 Oct 4am
Direct latch again.
Temperature REDUCED to 37.4C!!

07 Oct 6am
Mixed Millenium in the breast milk and bottle fed her.
Poop explosion!!! After 18 hours she pooped finally, and pooped a lot!

07 Oct 8am
She woke up smiling and started "chatting" with me again.
Mixed Millenium in the breast milk and bottle fed her. She slept again.
Temperature REDUCED to 37.1C!!

After that, she pooped normally and temperature went back to normal.
She smiles and laughs happily after getting well.

I'm very happy that with the help of Millenium and Nutriact, my 3 month old baby was able to fight fever WITHOUT ANY MEDICATION and WITHOUT SPONGING.

I did not sleep much through the night as well. I'm thankful that I did not fall sick as well.

There is no secret to good health. Just knowledge of suitable nutrition to nourish our own immune system to fight germs.

I hope to be able to share with you the science of Nutritional immunology. Feel free to contact me for a COMPLIMENTARY sharing about this science.
