1 year old Baby recover from Fever and Flu in 1 day

I am a strong advocate for Nutritional Immunology. I believe that good health can be obtained if we have the correct knowledge and understand how food nutrition is closely linked to the effectiveness of our immune system.

You might have read about the stringent nutrition that I follow during my pregnancy.

After giving birth, I breastfeed my kid. I wrote about the nutrition of a breastfeeding mum as well. Till today, I am still breastfeeding my kid. I believe in nourishing myself well, in order to be at optimum health, in order to give my kid the best nutrients that she will need to grow up.

Falling Sick

Falling sick is part and parcel of growing up. This is the way Nature builds up our immunity, our body's internal troop of soldiers. It is through the presence of enemies, that our internal army is able to practise fighting, thereby getting better at defense, combat, followed by repair.

Till date at 1 years old, my kid fell sick 3 times.

First time was due to vaccination. She had fever, and recovered in 1 day.

Second time she caught the Roseola virus. Highest temperature reached 39.4C. Her fever subsided in 3 days, and rashes went away within the next 2 days.

Last Thursday (7 July 2016), she had a sudden fever and flu. Highest temperature at 40C.  The mucus was dripping constantly.

For these episodes, I focused on nourishing her immune system to help her to regain her health.

The Fever

My helper fell sick with fever, flu and sore throat 2 Saturdays ago (1 July 2016). She got better on Monday.

She is the primary caregiver for my baby, so I monitored my baby to see if there were any fever / flu symptoms.

No symptoms at all for 6 days!

At dawn of 7 July 2016, baby couldn't sleep well and kept crying. I fed her breast milk - she rejected it.

Fed her water - she drank and drank.

At 7 am, I finally found the thermometer - 40C!!
Mucus kept dripping like some waterfall as well.
She was crying hysterically too. πŸ’”

For mummies of infants, how do you feel at this point?

For me, this is what I did.

1) Quickly text my boss to take urgent leave.

2) Fed her 1ml of paracetamol, to help her feel a little better so she can sleep. (This is the only time she took medicine.)

3) Took a packet of Oxyginberry beverage. Mixed it and spoon-fed my baby.

Fortunately, this is her standard morning drink, so she quietly drank and drank.

The wholesome plant foods, antioxidants and phytochemicals present in this beverage, way exceeds the benefits that plain water can provide.

My little girl fell asleep in my arms.

By 9am, temperature was 39.4C.
Mucus still like a leaking tap.

3) My helper prepared cereals for my girl using I-shape lite

Fortunately too, I-shape lite is not new to my girl. She had been eating a variety of foods since she started on solids.

Although my little girl had very poor appetite, she was able to take 1/4 cup of I-shape lite

This small amount was easy to prepare (within 1 min), and the ginseng present in I-shape lite gives the immune cells a boost, helping her little body defend against germs.

-----------

By 12 noon, temperature dropped to 39.0C.
Mucus still like leaking tap.

My helper and I used different NI foods through the day.

To replenish fluids, we used
- Oxyginberry
- Breast milk
- Millennium liquid - has strong anti inflammatory ability
- Home-brewed Chinese barley drink

For solids, we used
- I-shape lite
- Noco powder - has Lingzhi, nourishes the respiratory system.
- Fruits such as kiwi, strawberry, blueberries.

By 4pm, temperature was 38.5C.
Not so much mucus now.

By 7pm, temperature was 38.0C and she was giggling and playing with her toys again.
Sometimes the mucus annoyed her and she cried a bit.

Before going to bed, temperature was 37.7C.
Mucus starting to dry up.

8 July 7am - 37.0C πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
And I went to work without much worries. I know my helper will be able to manage and take good care of my darling girl. πŸ’—πŸ’—

What did I learn from this episode?

1) Safeguarding my kid's health is NUMBER 1 priority.

When she is sick, do you think I can concentrate at work?

No health, what is career, what is wealth?

2) There is no miracle drug. Constant nourishing to build up immune system, is the best prevention to an extended illness / recovery.

The Chinese have a saying
养兡千ζ—₯ η”¨εœ¨δΈ€ζ—Ά

Our immune army works the same way. They need time to be nourished and train up. When it's time to fight, they will be very competent.

3) Prevention is Better than Cure.

I say --

Prevention is Cheaper than Cure.

Why?
Because the cost of NI food for nourishment, is still cheaper than the cost of seeing a PD, the dollar loss if need to take unpaid leave, the medication for baby or even care giver.....

------

I am very thankful that I have learnt the Science of Nutritional Immunology to safeguard my family's health.

I am thankful for NI foods, because it gives me the convenience, and confidence to safeguard my family's health.

As a busy working mummy, convenience, effectiveness and wholesome nutritious food, will definitely be my choice moving forward.
