Testimonial for Oxyginberry - Sore throat and Cough

My sister used to get sore throat often. The haze usually will worsen the sore throat and cough. But since ny sister started consuming Oxyginberry regularly, now her immune system is able to fight the germs by itself!

The benefits of better health are intangible! :-)

Cheng Tng for the Haze Season

The weather has been bad recently, with haze going into the hazardous range. It is important to avoid breathing in too much "dirty" air containing particulates, especially so for my 2 month old infant. Many people rush to buy air purifier. But do not choose a good one. For really cleaning up the air indoors, a HEPA filter on the air purifier is needed.

I believe my air-conditioner, together with religious vacuuming and wiping of dust and dirt is good enough for the purpose required.

As usual, I enjoy using food nutrition to nourish the immune system so that our body is strong and can prevent falling sick in such a weather. Since I am breastfeeding now as well, I'm particularly drawn to food such as longan and red dates, which are milk boosters.

So today I cooked Cheng tng for my family. This is a tasty dessert that soothes the throat and reduces the heatiness of the body.

The following ingredients are used.

Snow fungus

Snow fungus is an immune stimulant that may help fight infection as seen in cell studies. Laboratory studies have found that it also demonstrates antitumor activity, lowers levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol, protects the liver, and fights inflammation, and that it may slow the ageing process. Supposedly, if snow fungus is eaten regularly, facial freckles will disappear, although this has not been tested in any scientific fashion.

Longan

Longan fruit is rich in antioxidants and can protect against heart disease, chronic inflammation and may even help prevent some cancers. Just one half cup provides 80% of your daily vitamin C requirements. Vitamin C also plays a vital role in immunity.

Iron absorption depends on vitamin C and combining longan fruit with meat increases your iron levels. Longan helps with blood production, most likely through the iron content needed to produce new red blood cells.

Red dates

Red dates are said to stimulate the production of white blood cells, which improves immunity, and decrease the levels of cholesterol in your bloodstream, which helps protect the liver.
Because of their high levels of Vitamin C, dates convert excessive cholesterol into bile acid, which helps prevent gallstones. Meanwhile, phosphorus and iron play an important role in preventing osteoporosis and anemia, both common in women.

Lily bud

Believed to  help with insomnia and to help settle a cough.

Lotus seeds

Lotus seeds contain L-isoaspartyl methyltransferase, an enzyme with anti-ageing properties. It is known to help in repairing damaged proteins. The seeds contain kaempferol, a flavonoid known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is known to help in repairing aging gum tissue. The astringent properties of lotus seeds make them beneficial for the kidneys. They help to regulate the energy levels of the body.

To sum up, eating healthily does not mean spending huge amounts of money. Understanding the benefits of each type of plant food, and use as needed, can help us to increase our immunity against diseases.

We can also remain youthful and healthy with correct choices of food.

Our health depends on what we eat. So choose wisely.

CHEERS!! :)

Her skin feels smoother after 2 weeks of day and night consumption. :-)

There is no secret to beautiful skin actually. We just need to take more fruits and vegetables daily and drink more water.

Back to work

Hahaha is this true?

For now, I just miss my baby a lot. Even when I have to go out, I try to rush back soon so that I can hug my girl.  :)

I'm going back to work very soon. This means the start of long hours, great stress and might need to fly overseas again. Too many things to consider...

- will I still be able to do middle of the night feeds?
- will I be too tired?
- will I have enough time in office to pump n store the bm?

All I know is that an active income from a stressful job is not the way to go. I need to build up passive income. It's still not too late to realise this.

Jiayou to myself! Yes!

Genetic therapy vs Back to basics

Hello! I was reading up on some interesting articles and would like to share with you my thoughts.

In the past, our ancestors (ok at least my ancestors LOL) were poor and ate mainly plant food, such as rice, potato, vegetables. They worked hard for a living, very often in manual jobs. They slept early because they are too tired after a day’s work. My grandmother, for example, lived till a ripe 99 years old.

Fast forward to the society today. People are generally more affluent. We eat more junk food everyday compared to our ancestors. We work hard, so hard that many people are over-stressed. Many of us have desk-bound jobs as well. With the invention of light bulbs and the internet, few people sleep early these days. These days, we hear of more and more people suffering from illnesses, such as high blood pressure, diabetes…

It appears that 1) easy availability of junk food, 2) stress, 3) lack of exercise and 4) lack of sleep contributes to the increase in diseases in the current population. So with more diseases to tackle, scientists try to find more cures.

DNA profiling / Sequencing

I used to hear only about DNA profiling, and DNA sequencing.  DNA profiling determines the likelihood that genetic material came from a particular individual or group. DNA sequencing aims to find out the ACGT sequence of the DNA. In other words, find out the genetic identity of the organism. What does this mean in lay man’s terms?
Let me give you an example - Hair colour. By reading the person’s DNA sequencing information, you will know the hair color of the person, even without seeing the person before. You will also know the likelihood of the person getting cancer in his lifetime.
Ooh, amazing right?

Gene editing

Today I read another article from Wall Street Journal. It looks like scientists have a breakthrough. They are able to edit your genes. In other words, snip off undesirable DNA sections, and replace with desirable ones. It looks like scientists are excited about this. Because it means there will be more treatment for diseases soon.
But. Does this sound like playing god? What do you think?

Back to basics

Many exciting new developments in the medical / research field. Many treatments for diseases are coming up. Do you feel happy about it?
For me, I just think, is it better that we all go back to basics, lead a simple and healthy lifestyle like what our ancestors have done?

1) Eat healthily – eat more and a larger variety of plant-based food.
2) Exercise more – such as take 10,000 steps a day
3) Balanced emotions and control stress
4) Sleep early – before 11pm daily

To me, this could be the cheapest and simplest way to gain good health and live till a happy and ripe old age. At least to me, this method is way better than chasing after new technology and finding new solutions to problems. Prevent bad health via the above 4 simple habits.

What do you think?

Haze

Woah Woah Woah... Singapore is a misty land today!
The hazy burnt smell is ridiculous.

The 24-hour PSI at 11pm on Thursday was 132 to 148. A reading of 101 to 200 means that air quality is unhealthy.

I hear of many people falling sick. The common complains are sore throat, cough, flu, dry eyes.

How are you coping with the haze?

I stay at a high floor HDB, and I do not have air purifier at home. Just to share. This is how I cope with the haze.

1)  Only half the windows at home are open.

2)  Switch on the fan to ensure circulation of air within the house.

3)  Drink lots of water.

4)  Ensure that I take Oxyginberry everyday. It contains very high levels of antioxidants from food that strengthens the immune system to prevent falling sick.

5)  Take 1 cup of Orchestra everyday. The ashitaba leaves and kumazasa leaves, also called longevity leaves by the Japanese, soothes the throat. The large amount of phytochemicals strengthens the immune system.

6) Take a glass of Triflora everyday. The precious five-leaf ginseng is rich in botanical nutrients like ginsenoside. It can sooth the throat from irritants.

7)  Diligent breast feed / latch my 2 month old infant. This is to ensure that antibodies from me are transferred from me to my baby. Thereby protecting her.

I am happy that so far everyone in my family is feeling well.

When my family is happy, I will be happy. Hence spending some money to purchase Oxyginberry, Orchestra and Triflora is worth it because the intangible benefits from seeing my family healthy, is priceless. :-).

I wish everyone reading this blog happy and healthy. Cheers! :-)

Is Cow's Milk really good for you?

"Drink milk! It is good for your bones!"
"Drink milk!, Good source of calcium!"

Have you heard of these phrases? Do you think this is the truth?

I have always been drinking milk since young. I had always believed in the goodness of cow's milk. However in recent years, I start to realise that I may be wrong.

Drinking cow's milk increases risk of osteoperosis!

Breastfeeding mums who drink milk may cause their baby to display colic-like symptoms, eczema, wheezing, vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), constipation, hives, and/or a stuffy, itchy nose if the baby is sensitive to the antibodies in cow's milk.

(Extracted from http://saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/)

Many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones. What an irony this is!
Here’s how it happens. Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. You see, calcium is an excellent acid neutralizer and the biggest storage of calcium in the body is – you guessed it… in the bones. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, so that the surprising net result after this is an actual calcium deficit.
Knowing this, you’ll understand why statistics show that countries with the lowest consumption of dairy products also have the lowest fracture incidence in their population.
Also, each mammalian species has its own “designer” milk, and cow’s milk is no exception. For example, cow’s milk contains on average three times the amount of protein than human milk which creates metabolic disturbances in humans that have detrimental bone health consequences.

(Extracted from http://kellymom.com/health/baby-health/food-sensitivity/#protein)

Sensitivity to cow’s milk proteins

Breastfed babies who are sensitive to dairy in mom’s diet are sensitive to specific cow’s milk antibodies, in the form of proteins (not lactose), which pass into the mother’s milk. Cow’s milk (either in the mother’s diet or engineered into formula) is a common source of food sensitivity in babies. Cow’s milk sensitivity or allergy can cause colic-like symptoms, eczema, wheezing, vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), constipation, hives, and/or a stuffy, itchy nose.
If your baby is sensitive to dairy in your diet, it will not help to switch to lactose-free dairy products. The problem is the cow’s milk proteins, not the lactose. Cooking dairy products may reduce but will not eliminate the allergens.

One Possible Solution

Take organic, preservative-free, non-GMO soy milk!
Sounds very difficult to find such product? Very expensive?

Not really. These are affordable choices.

Nutrifresh - cost <$2 a day!

Nutrition during Pregnancy

During my pregnancy, many people have reprimanded me and told me that I am insane. Do you believe that I did not take any supplements that my gynae recommended?

The truth is, I really did not.

Why? You may ask...

I looked at the ingredient listing at the back of the bottles of supplement.... I see synthetic chemicals... I see preservatives... And then I ask myself... Why depend on chemicals when I have access to food nutrition and it is conveniently available?

Example of Nutrition needed by the foetus

1) Iron

Iron is required to build red blood cells for the foetus. Many of the commercial iron supplements are chemically created. Overdosage of such supplements will lead to constipation.
I chose to take Vegaplex instead. It contains ABM mushroom, Maitake mushroom, Acerola cherry and blueberries, all in food form.
Excellent plant sources of iron such as ABM mushroom and Maitake mushroom are rich in easily absorbed iron and are free of side effects.

2) Proteins, Calcium and Folates

The foetus will need a lot of protein to grow and build muscles. Yes I know that I can take a lot of meat to get sufficient protein. However, animal meat such as pork and beef also contain lots of calories, fats and cholesterol. I chose to take lean protein such as egg white and soy milk.

Why lean protein? This may sound funny... But personally, I'd rather have a lean and strong baby, like Shaolin people, vs fat but strong baby... LOL!

Soy milk also contains calcium which is required for bone formation for the baby.

Even for soy milk, I choose non-GMO and organic soy. This comes conveniently as Nutrifresh and I-shape.

Folates plays an important role in the production of red blood cells and helps the baby's neural tube develop into her brain and spinal cord.

Nutrifresh contains more than 10 types of fruits and vegetables, hence a rich source of folates.

There are many other nutrients that I looked into. If you would like to know more, feel free to drop me a message / email.

Cheers! :-)

I recovered from Haematology (Blood-related) problems through NI lifestyle

RecIn my previous post, I wrote about my blood test results showing improvement. Since year 2014, I do not feel cold and dizzy easily anymore. I am finally eligible to donate blood because I have sufficient "good" haemoglobin already.

I believe this is because I made the decision to adopt the NUTRITIONAL IMMUNOLOGY LIFESTYLE.

Year 2011

For many years, I had looked pale, easily felt cold and occasionally dizzy. Data shows failing haemocrit (blood cluster volume), haemoglobin (the fellow that transports oxygen around the body), unusual shapes of blood cells (anisocytosis, elliptocytes, tear-drop shaped). This is NOT anaemia nor thalesseamia. But still a lingering problem.

Year 2013

Year 2014 - All blood parameters PASSED!

How did I achieve this?

This is no rocket science. You can adopt it too!

I make sure I eat wholesome organic food everyday. Some examples are :

-- Ginseng berry - 1.4x antioxidant than vitamin C, improves blood flow especially to the brain.

-- Also ABM mushroom - a powerful anti-viral agent, support body's immune system by stimulating the production of cancer-fighting T cells, interferon and interleukin.

All these ingredients come conveniently as organic, preservative-free food in capsule form, Vegaplex.

For more details, feel free to contact me for a COMPLIMENTARY consultation. :-)
